Wayanad
Wayanad is one of the most popular and beautiful tourist destination in kerala. Surrounded by forests and mountains, Wayanad is considered as the green paradise, it is not far from calicut and it is not affected by the noisiness and encroachment of the city. The main attraction of Wayanad is clean and pure streams and waterfalls with the touch of natures beauty. Waynad is the city of Zamorins. The name Wayanad is derived from the words Vayal (paddy field) nadu (home) ie, Home of Paddy fields, or Land of Paddy fields,
Wayanad has a rich and diversified tradition, the great ruler kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja of kottayam dynasty was the ruler who fought against the British for making them quit his land. He had fought with the British several times and won, the main strength of the raja were the tribal who served the king to fight for him. The Britishers could only find the Raja's dead body in the jungle. After the death of the king, the Britishers took the place and cultivated tea and built roads to the interior of the jungle, connecting to ooty and mysore.
Chembara peak, Pakshipathalam and Meenmutty waterfalls are some of the main attractions of the region. Chembara peak is a dangerous peak to climb and it is a boom to the action lovers, it is the highest peak in Wayanad ranging at a height of 2100m, above sea level. It takes almost a day to reach the top of the peak. Pakshipathalam is also another adventure-filled area, it is situated at about 17 km inside the mysterious forest, it is about situated about 170m above sea level. It got its name because different variety of birds and wild beasts are found in these regions. Meenmutty waterfall is a 500m high waterfall, it is located 12 km east to meppadi.
Wayanad experiences a salubrious climate, the main crops grown here are Coffee, tea, cocoa, pepper, plantain and vanilla
Wayanad is the home to many different variety of animals and birds, it is one of the most important factor which attracts tourists to this region. A major part of Wayanad is covered by coffee, coffee is grown in almost all high altitude region of Wayanad. There are different varieties of trees grown here. The main trees found here are rosewood, Artocarpus, Erthrina and species of caussia are also found in this region.
Different varitey of animals such as bonnet monkeys, loris, jackals, mongoose, squirrels, wild cats, hares could be found in some part of the forests, the venomous snake, King Cobra is also found here.
