Malappuram

The Malappuram district is situated in such a way that it has Nilgiris in the east and the Arabian sea in the west. Malappuram provides an enchanting view of the mountains and trees including the shores of the Arabian sea also gives it the magical touch of mother nature. Malapppuram also has many cultural background, Thunjath Ezhuthachan, who is known as the father of modern Malayalam literature was born in this district, he was born in a place known as Trikkandiyur near Tirur, 400 years ago.
    The name 'Malappuram' is derived from the two Malayalam  words 'mala' and 'puram' which means at the top of the mountain. Malappuram is a hilly region. It is covered by picturesque view of the nature, it gives it a magnificent view of the mother earth. There are many tourist spots in Malappuram which attracts tourists from all around the globe, the places in Malappuram are welcoming, you'll feel like coming again and again.
    Another main important attraction of Malappuram is that 4 main rivers of kerala flow through the district making it more beautiful. The rivers flowing through these region are: Chaliyar (Beypore river) Kadalundipuzha, Bharathapuzha and Tirurpuzha. 28.7% of the district is covered by forest, majority of the forest covered region are deciduous and the rest are evergreen. Teak, Venteak, Rosewood and Mahagony are commonly found in these region. There are a variety of animals such as Elephants, deers, tigers, blue monkeys, bears, boars, rabbits in these area, these constitutes to the wildlife of the district. Like most of the other districts of the state, Malappuram also consists of three land divisions, they include lowland, midland and highland.,the lowland stretches along the sea coast, the midland in the center the highland region towards the east and north eastern parts.
