Kasargod

Kasargod is commonly known as the land of forts, kasrsgod found its place in the map as the land of yakshagana and theyyam, it also holds an important role in folk music and dance forms, the main thing about Kasargod is its rich cultural heritage. Kasargod has many places of historical importance which are now the center for tourism, the main attraction of the Kasargod district is the Bekal Fort, it is the biggest fort in Kerala, which is one of the oldest and most preseved fort in Kerala. The Bekal fort is about 300 years old, it lies about 130 ft. above sea level, it lies in an whole total of 35 acres of land.

The name Kasargod is derived from the sanskrit words Kaasara(lake or pond) and Kroda (place where treasure are kept), there are evidances that support this theory as the place provide you with many rivers, lakes and ponds. There are many places which are meant for nature lovers, the main thing about the district is it is a very good tourist destination.
