Kannur

Kannur is one of the famous places of kerala which led to the victory of freedom struggle. Kannur had an important role to play in the freedom struggle of India. One of the main movement was the formation of the Communist Party of India in a village known as pinarayi. The significance of Kannur is dated back to the olden times. The name Kannur is derived from the words kannan and oor ie, the land of kannan (Lord Krishnan),

The climate of Kannur is a humid one, it is hot in the season of march -may, after that it get rain from the south-west monsoon which continues till September. The other monsoon season is the north-east monsoon.

There is a 'Visha Chikalsa Kendra' set up at Pappinesseri is a place where they combine Ayurveda and Allopathy for curing the snake bites. There are many non-venomous snake including Pythons, and you will be able to see the trained guard interacting with these snakes. St. Angelo Fort near the coast of Kannur town is another important tourist destination, it was built by Sir Francisco de Almeida who was the first Portuguese Viceroy of India, it is one of the protected monument by the ASI(Archeological Survey of India).
